I want to live in a world where...

At the beginning of every year the children complete tasks to set out goals for the future and so in September my class designed posters with the slogan "I want to be in a class where...". With that it has inspired this poem.

I want to live in a world where...

I want to live in a world where my daughter can feel safe at night
and where my son won't feel like an attacker by walking behind someone else's daughter.
I want to live in a world where my daughter can feel strong and independent
and where my son can break down and cry without judgement when he feels weak.
I want to live in a world where my daughter can love and marry your daughter
and where my son can love and marry your son if that is what they want.

I want to live in a world where our leaders talk of peace
and where their actions follow their words.
I want to live in a world where our leaders are driven by our children's futures
and where money is used by them to help those who suffer.
I want to live in a world where our leaders lead by example
and where corruption is a word of the past.

I want to live in a world where I can be a housewife or a leader
and both choices are not judged by others.
I want to live in a world where I have complete autonomy of my body
and the decisions I make are not based on the religious views of others.
I want to live in a world where I can believe in science, faith or both
and still be loved, respected and unharmed by others.

I want to live in our world without worrying about its destruction
and I want to leave it behind without devastation,
not in need of reconstruction,
by the next generation.
