Madrid in Photos

The weekend before last I was lucky enough to be able to hop on a plane and end up in Madrid. It was only a weekend break but whilst we were there we managed to see some incredible places. Our apartment was in the heart of Madrid but just outside of the major touristy spots which, for me, is perfect. We had to use some Spanish to get by and as we walked about not another group of tourists were about. We got to see authentic Madrid, not the Madrid which had been over commercialized for visitors. So here is Madrid from my perspective...

I know this photo is blurred but I wanted to include it to explain what this place is. As we entered we felt like we were in a butchers only it was 11pm and people were stood around drinking beer. We soon learnt that this is a type of tapas bar and when you order drinks you get food to go along with it. It was a strange experience but I would recommend everyone to stick their head in if they ever find themselves walking past one, even if it is only to say you have.

1. I appologise, I was using my phone as my camera so there will be a lot of portrait photos.
2. Get ready for lots of photos of art work. We really didn't come across a lot of graffiti but we did come across many doors and buildings painted with beautiful and unusual designs.

Just a 24 hour pizza shop selling slices for a euro! And trust me, these were better than normal pizza shop pizzas.

Palacio Real - the official home of the Spanish royal family although it is only used for events.

Madrid was incredible, the photos do not do it justice. If you ever have a reason to visit then go as I am sure you will not be disappointed. Emerge yourself and eat tapas, stand in tapas bars, eat paella, visit the sites and walk down some side roads to find even more beautiful architecture.

Where would you recommend people to visit for a day or a long weekend?
